Across our CoreCivic facilities, our Health Services division oversaw 804,500 onsite medical and mental health encounters (e.g., physician and nurse visits, lab tests, etc.) and 24,600 offsite services (e.g., in-patient hospital stays, specialist visits, etc.) in 2024 alone.
CoreCivic is committed to providing access to high-quality physical and mental health care for all residents, whether as a direct provider of health services or in coordination with ICE’s Health Services Corps (IHSC) in facilities where they provide medical care.
In facilities where CoreCivic is responsible for providing health care, onsite medical clinics are staffed by licensed health care professionals including licensed physicians, dentists, advanced practice providers, nurses, and mental health professionals who contractually meet the highest standards of care, as verified by multiple audits and inspections.
All detainees have daily access to sign up for medical care, including mental health and dental services. CoreCivic also ensures access to offsite care for residents by coordinating with staff, government partners, community physicians, hospitals and ambulatory care providers.
For those medical needs requiring specialized care, our facilities work closely with local hospitals and providers to meet those needs. Emergency services are available 24 hours a day, seven days per week.
Medication that is prescribed to individuals is either managed by our health services team or by the individuals themselves, depending on the type of medication. Our pharmacy nurses review medication orders and promptly inform the ordering physician when renewals are required.
