CoreCivic and Tennessee Department of Correction Announce Contract Extension at South Central Correctional Facility

CoreCivic | 4/14/23 2:43 PM

BRENTWOOD, Tenn., April 14, 2022 – CoreCivic and the Tennessee Department of Correction (TDOC) have reached an agreement for the continued operation of the South Central Correctional Facility (SCCF) in Clifton through June 30, 2025. The new agreement, which takes effect July 1, 2023, ensures that SCCF will continue to provide needed capacity and reentry services for TDOC. This agreement was reached following ongoing discussions between CoreCivic and TDOC officials as the Department considered its options for the continued operation of SCCF beyond the current contract term that was set to expire at the end of June.

“The South Central Correctional Facility and its dedicated employees play an integral role in our mission to enhance public safety in Tennessee. This agreement allows us to continue a 30-year partnership with the Wayne County community - ensuring balanced population levels across our facilities and the continuance of important rehabilitation programs that benefit all of Tennessee,” said TDOC Commissioner Frank Strada.

"I’m grateful to Governor Bill Lee, Commissioner Strada and his team at the Tennessee Department of Correction for the opportunity to continue our longstanding partnership and appreciate the trust they’ve placed in CoreCivic for more than three decades at South Central. We share a deep commitment to offering those in our care robust programs and training opportunities that will prepare them as they return to our communities," said CoreCivic President and CEO Damon Hininger. "We’re also grateful for the community support we’ve gotten from Clifton and the surrounding area. We look forward to continuing this great work in partnership with TDOC at SCCF.”

The dedicated SCCF team includes teachers, counselors, chaplains, correctional officers and many other professionals. They have helped thousands of individuals achieve success in work and life after incarceration through efforts like earning a GED or vocational certificate, addressing substance use challenges, and many other transformative programming opportunities.
