Nothing matters more to CoreCivic than the health and safety of the people in our care. We’ve compiled the information below to address recurring inaccurate and misleading claims about our Dilley Immigration Processing Center (DIPC) that are not supported by the facts. We also encourage you to review what our government partners have shared to address this misinformation.
A virtual reality tour of DIPC can be found here.

- Meets or exceeds all federal standards and subject to rigorous oversight
Oversight and Accountability
All CoreCivic facilities, including DIPC, are subject to multiple layers of oversight and are monitored very closely by our government partners to ensure full compliance with policies, procedures and all applicable detention standards.
In 2025 alone, 33 CoreCivic facilities earned accreditation through the independent American Correctional Association, with an average audit score of 99.6%. Our government partners also conducted over 230 audits and inspections across our facilities, and our internal Quality Assurance (QA) division conducted 34 annual audits and corporate reviews, examining more than 1,200 audit indicators. Our staff training meets or exceeds that of our government partners. These aren't just internal metrics—they're verified by independent auditors and the government agencies we serve.
Medical Care
Claims about inadequate medical care at DIPC are inaccurate and are directly contradicted by the comprehensive, around-the-clock care delivered by our licensed physicians, dentists, advanced practice providers, nurses and mental health professionals. These dedicated clinicians work in complex environments and provide care with skill, professionalism and compassion, following both CoreCivic’s standards and those set forth by our government partners.
Residents have access to a continuum of health care services, including screening, prevention, health education, diagnosis and treatment.
- All residents have daily access to sign up for medical care and mental health services.
- For medical needs requiring specialized care, our facilities work closely with local hospitals and providers to meet those needs. Emergency care is available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
- Prescribed medication is either managed by our health services team or by individuals themselves, depending on the type. Our pharmacy nurses review medication orders and promptly inform the ordering physician when renewals are required.
Across our CoreCivic facilities, our Health Services division oversaw 804,500 onsite medical and mental health encounters (e.g., physician and nurse visits, lab tests, etc.) and 24,600 offsite services (e.g., in-patient hospital stays, specialist visits, etc.) in 2024 alone.
Food and Water Quality
DIPC gets the same clean drinking water the local utility supplies to the surrounding community. Staff at our facility drink the same water as those in our care.
We provide three nutritious meals a day and take care to support specialized diets, including religious diets and more than a dozen therapeutic diets, as well as cultural preferences. Menus—including food portions and nutritional content—are reviewed and approved by a registered dietitian. Staff at the facility routinely eat the same meals as those served to the residents.
Our food service workers adhere to all applicable food safety, storage and preparation standards and protocols, including wearing personal protective equipment such as hair nets and gloves. Food services at DIPC are subject to regular audits and inspections by our government partners and regulatory agencies and have consistently passed such inspections.
Children’s Artwork
Claims that our staff have confiscated or destroyed children's personal artwork and supplies are not true. Examples of children’s artwork are displayed throughout the facility. Residents are permitted to decorate their rooms with personal items, provided they don’t pose a health or safety hazard. Upon admission, all residents receive information about what personal property is allowed. Like all immigration processing centers, DIPC conducts routine inspections of living areas in accordance with federal standards — but these inspections do not involve confiscating or discarding children's artwork or supplies.
Facility Features
As an immigration processing center for families, DIPC maintains a secure environment while also supporting the unique needs of its residents. Typical stays at DIPC are short, but during that time, our staff provide respectful and humane support to residents as they navigate next steps in their immigration process. More information about our employees’ commitment to those in our care at DIPC can be found here.
The facility provides monitored childcare while parents attend court proceedings, meetings with attorneys, and asylum interviews. DIPC also has extensive outdoor recreational opportunities, including a soccer field, playground, sand volleyball court, cornhole games and a covered pavilion used for board games. Indoors, families can take part in religious services, visit the library, shop in the commissary, get a haircut at the barber shop, sing karaoke or watch movies. For school-age children, educational packets are provided to help with learning grade-appropriate information.
Role In Immigration
For more than 40 years, CoreCivic has played a limited but important role in America’s immigration system. The services we provide help the government solve problems in ways it could not do alone – creating safer communities by assisting with the current immigration challenges, dramatically improving the standard of care for vulnerable people, and meeting other critical needs efficiently and innovatively.
It's important to understand that CoreCivic does not enforce immigration laws, arrest anyone who may be in violation of immigration laws, or have any say whatsoever in an individual’s deportation or release. CoreCivic also does not know the circumstances of individuals when they are placed in our facilities. Our responsibility is to care for each person respectfully and humanely while they receive the legal due process that they are entitled to.
In addition to meeting all federal standards, CoreCivic also has our own detailed Human Rights Policy that clearly outlines our commitments regarding resident rights and treatment, including legal rights, safety and security, healthcare, visitation and standards of living. We take these commitments seriously because we understand the responsibility that comes with caring for people in our facilities.
