2023 College Success at CoreCivic

CoreCivic | 4/4/24 8:24 AM

April is Second Chance Month! While "second chances" can come through many forms for justice-involved individuals, one critical component to rebuilding a brighter future following incarceration is earning an education ahead of release—whether it's a GED, vocational certificate in a trade, college degree, or a mixture of each.

In 2023, 44 college degrees were conferred to residents in CoreCivic's care, with 287 residents enrolled in college programming of some kind. Incarcerated individuals who have participated in postsecondary correctional education programs may have up to 48 percent lower odds of returning to prison than those who have not, according to the Vera Institute.
