Thanks to a program at CoreCivic's Crossroads Correctional Center, inmates are learning to transcribe the written word into braille – a valuable skill, which they can use to earn an honest living after release. Through the program's partnership with the American Publishing House, former inmates working as professional transcribers receive first consideration when they submit bids for transcription. "The work we're doing now through this braille program…makes me feel like I can still contribute," said Danial, a Crossroads braille program participant. "I can give back even though I'm in here and I can still do something worthwhile and productive and help somebody else."
