Dog-Training Program Helps Inmates and People with Disabilities

"Being a puppy raiser here in prison is probably the greatest thing that ever happened to me in my life."

This is how one Crossroads Correctional Center inmate described his experience in a dog-training program offered through Canine Companions for Independence®. He and other participants raise puppies, preparing them to assist people who have disabilities.

While giving back to society through the program, inmates build self-worth and pride. And for some, it's a stepping stone to a job working with dogs after release.
