In 2023, CoreCivic's Wheeler Correctional Facility in Alamo, Georgia, and Jenkins Correctional Center in Millen, Georgia, launched the Go Further Release program, which offers returning citizens specialized life and reentry coaching both 90 days pre- and post-release. Now, two years after the program's launch, program participants are sharing how Go Further Release has positively impacted them and helped them secure a second chance at success.
My name is James, and I was recently released. The transition back into regular society felt overwhelming. Everything moved so fast, and I had to relearn how to do even the simplest things. I participated in the Go Further Release program through Vital Signs Ministries and it played a huge role in helping me lay a solid foundation for my life after incarceration. It provided spiritual guidance, helped me process my emotions, and gave me the tools I needed not just to survive, but truly thrive. I'm excited to see what the future holds, and I'm committed to living a life that honors God and the second chance I've been given.
My name is Osha, and I was recently released. The experience felt like being dropped in the middle of a foreign country with no map or guidebook. That's why I'm grateful for programs like Go Further Release. It's a lifeline for guys like me who want to change but often don't know how. One of the biggest hurdles I faced after release was the lack of support. You're expected to navigate a world that's changed while you were inside, and the temptation to fall back into old, destructive patterns is incredibly strong. Go Further Release gave me a support system and community of people who understand what I'm going through and are committed to helping me succeed. My coach has been there for me through every obstacle and setback, being my extra voice of encouragement and pushing me to organize my thoughts and set realistic goals. I benefitted immensely from the program. It gave me the tools, support, and belief in myself that I needed to build a new, better life, and for that, I'll be forever grateful.
My name is Ronson, and I was recently released. When I was incarcerated, I was at my lowest point, mentally, physically and spiritually. Ninety days before I was released, I was a shell of a person. That's when Go Further Release Coach Lawrence Wynne walked into my life. He asked if I needed a life coach to help prepare for my new beginning. I accepted [his offer] and found a glimmer of hope in the darkness. The Go Further Release program helped me find housing, provided spiritual guidance and a crucial support system. Now, 14 months out of incarceration, I have my own car, multiple businesses, a great job, a strong church community, and most importantly, I love myself again. None of this would have been possible for me without Go Further Release.
My name is Michael, and I was recently released. One of the biggest challenges I've faced throughout my life was a lack of guidance. Growing up in a single-parent home with my mother, there wasn't a strong male figure I could turn to for advice or support. I often felt lost and unsure of myself, but this is where the Go Further Release program has profoundly impacted my life. This program provided the mentorship and support I was missing, giving me a safe space to explore my challenges and develop a stronger sense of self. It also taught me the value of looking inward, acknowledging my strengths and weaknesses, and taking responsibility for my choices. I am incredibly grateful for the impact this program has had on my life, and I sincerely hope more justice-involved individuals will have the opportunity to participate in programs like this and experience the same positive transformative journey.
My name is Patrick, and I was recently released. Coming out of incarceration and rebuilding my life has been one of the biggest challenges I've ever faced. There were times it felt overwhelming, frustrating, and full of despair. But through it all, my faith and the support I received from my Go Further Release coach kept me going. Having someone in my corner, someone who believed in me even when I didn't believe in myself, has been invaluable. They helped me see the light even when I was surrounded by darkness. The support I received felt like having a family. Knowing there were people who genuinely cared about my well-being, who were invested in my success, made all the difference. I am eternally grateful for their unwavering support and for helping me find my way back.
My name is Taysean, and I was recently released. After being incarcerated for 10 years, the world felt both familiar and alien. It was terrifying. The Go Further Release program connected me with a life coach who brought positive energy, guidance, and a listening ear. One of the most important things my coach has done is help me set concrete, achievable goals—and then hold me accountable. [My life coach] makes sure I stay focused, even when times are tough. This is crucial because distractions are everywhere and it can be tempting to revert to what you knew, even if it's what got you in trouble in the first place. My coach pushes me to keep moving forward. I am incredibly grateful for this program and my life coach. They've given me a chance to build a better life for myself and my family and the belief that I can create a brighter future.
