Every day, discussions about how to solve the complex challenges around immigration are at the center of media stories, political debates, and conversations at the dinner table. Yet in the middle of these discussions, there is misinformation being spread about our company, and it is important to set the record straight.

Fact 1: CoreCivic never has and does not house unaccompanied minors. We do not house children who are not under the supervision of a parent – period. Instead, during their stay at our Texas facility, children receive comprehensive medical, mental, and dental care that is subject to multiple layers of oversight and close monitoring by our government partners. Religious and recreational services are made available to all residents, as well as educational activities for children.

Fact 2: Individuals receive immediate, compassionate care when they arrive. Every single individual that enters CoreCivic's care gets medical attention, a hot meal, and a warm shower in the first moments after they enter our facility. They are shown how to make outgoing phone calls and provided important information in their own language via interpreters. From there, they are provided housing and access to legal counsel as they pursue their immigration cases. We also have our own detailed Human Rights Policy that clearly outlines our commitments regarding detainee rights and treatment, including legal rights, safety and security, healthcare, visitation and standards of living.

Fact 3: CoreCivic operates clean facilities that adhere to all applicable detention standards where we offer balanced meals and clean

drinking water. The three daily nutritious meals are planned by dietitians and approved by our government partners. We take great care to offer meals that support specialized diets, including religious diets and more than a dozen therapeutic diets, as well as cultural preferences. The clean drinking water is provided by the local utility that supplies water to the surrounding community. Staff at our facility drink the same water and routinely eat the same meals as those served to the individuals in our care.

Fact 4: CoreCivic does not enforce immigration laws, arrest anyone who may be in violation of immigration laws, or have any say whatsoever in an individual’s deportation or release. CoreCivic also does not know the circumstances of individuals when they are placed in our facilities. Those matters are at the sole discretion of the federal government. Our responsibility is to care for each person respectfully and humanely while they receive the legal due process that they are entitled to.

We understand that immigration is a challenging issue, but we cannot let inaccurate information about our company stand. The bottom line is that our care is appropriate, our care is compassionate and our care is always respectful - and that is the truth.
