A Secure Federal Detention Facility Held to the Highest Standards

CoreCivic is preparing to serve and meet the needs of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) at our West Tennessee Detention Facility (WTDF), in Mason, Tennessee. As a long-standing member of the community going back nearly 35 years, it’s important that the people of Mason and the surrounding areas hear directly from us about the facility—what it will mean, what it won’t mean, and our commitment to be a positive and valued community partner.

Proven, Dependable Partner: CoreCivic has been a long-time partner in Mason and surrounding Tipton County, going back almost 35 years. We couldn’t be prouder to be a valued part of this community.

Local Economic Benefits: WTDF, serving as a partner to ICE will create nearly 240 new, good-paying jobs, with a starting salary of $26.50 per hour (approximately $55 thousand annually) for detention officers. WTDF will generate approximately $325 thousand in annual property taxes, and approximately $200 thousand (when fully operational) in annual impact fees to the city that could be used for schools, infrastructure and other community priorities. WTDF will generate approximately $1.2 million in annual utility payments.

Oversight and Accountability: Our facility will operate with strong oversight and accountability from our government partners, including regular audits and onsite monitors. Both our company and our government partners share a deep commitment to humane care.

Safety, Security and Quality: Our top priority is the safety of the people in our care, our staff and the community. In addition to our own high standards for quality, we are contractually required to uphold rigorous federal detention standards.

A Needed but Limited Role in Immigration: Our responsibility is to safely and humanely care for the individuals in our care while they go through the civil immigration process. We do not and will not lobby on any policies, regulations or legislation that impact the basis for or duration of an individual’s detention. We do not and will not enforce any immigration laws, arrest anyone who may be in violation of immigration laws, or have any say or decision in an individual’s deportation or release.
